The Piano Academy is an After School Piano Program in The Arts at St. Margaret's Episcopal School, offering private lessons, recitals, and chamber music opportunities for students of all ages, from Preschool through Upper School.
Depending on the age and the level of the student, lessons are scheduled each semester with a 30, 45, or 60 minute weekly individual meeting. This is the primary component of our Piano Academy, providing supportive instruction by dedicated, qualified, teachers and performers of the piano. Please note that students in Preschool and Lower School K-3 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all lessons.
Piano students have the opportunity to perform throughout the year on several kinds of recital opportunities. Showcase recitals are more informal and frequent performances that take place in the Orchestra Room (1029) of the Performing Arts Center. It is an opportunity for each student to develop their performance skills in front of a small and supportive audience. There are also two formal Concerts, one each semester in the Marcus D. Hurlbut Theater.
Each student has the opportunity to play multi-hand piano chamber music with other students in the Piano Academy, as well as collaborations with string, woodwind, brass, and piano players in the Chamber Music Program.
Our faculty includes members of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) and the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), and we sponsor students to register and qualify for certificate programs, honors recitals, and performance competitions.
